Proton Premiere: Rancon Rolls Out Bangladesh’s First Locally Assembled SUV

On a cloudy Tuesday afternoon, a new chapter in Bangladesh’s automobile industry began as Rancon Auto unveiled the country’s first locally assembled smart crossover SUV. The launch event, held at Rancon’s showroom in Tejgaon, Dhaka, brought together automobile journalists, prospective buyers, business partners, influencers, and riders. The vehicle was introduced through an "autoglamorous" presentation by Rancon Auto Industries Limited’s Executive Director Md. Badiuzzaman and Director Md. Mostafizur Rashid Bhuiyan.
The vehicle, a Proton X70, has been assembled at the Rancon Auto Industries Limited factory situated in Bhabanipur, Kashimpur, Gazipur, within the Rancon Industrial Park. According to the distributor, the SUV will be available not only in Dhaka but also at their showroom in Soloshohor, Chattogram. Rancon British Cars Limited has announced a service warranty of five years or up to 150,000 kilometers for the new model.
From the launch display, it was revealed that this next-generation Sports Utility Vehicle listens to the driver’s voice commands and renders a vivid live 360-degree 3D view of the surroundings. Its touchscreen infotainment system enables users to control vehicle features through verbal instructions. A panoramic sunroof offers passengers the opportunity to enjoy scenic views—be it blue skies or a star-studded night—bringing in a sense of openness and comfort to the cabin. The car also comes equipped with online navigation and weather updates.
Additional features include Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC) headlamps, Daylight Running Lamps (DRL), and auto rain-sensing wipers. For smooth gear transitions, the Proton X70 is fitted with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with manual mode. Its 1.5-liter turbocharged TGDi engine is designed to deliver high mileage with lower fuel consumption and minimal carbon emissions.
In the vehicle presentation, it was mentioned that Proton developed this system with Bangladesh’s often unpredictable and congested traffic conditions in mind. The car includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), allowing it to automatically regulate speed and even stop in heavy traffic. For added safety, the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) help reduce risks when changing lanes or overtaking, especially on narrow roads or highways.
During the inauguration, Auto Drive BD Executive Editor Rahbar Al Haque announced that this C-segment SUV will be featured in the upcoming 18th Dhaka Motor Show 2025. The price of the first SUV assembled in the country, the Proton X70, is 38 lakh 50 thousand taka.
