e-CAB Election Announced After Delays, Voting Set for May 3

After missing the initially allotted four-month deadline, the much-anticipated biannual election of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) has finally been scheduled. Unlike previous elections, where directors were elected collectively, this time, voting will be held for individual positions. The election is set to take place on May 3.

The election schedule, signed by Election Board Chairman Sohel Rahman, was announced on Sunday (February 9). According to the schedule, the nomination fee for the director position has been increased from BDT 30,000 to BDT 50,000.

As per the declared schedule, members who wish to vote in the 2025–27 e-CAB Executive Committee election must clear their annual membership fees by December 31. The final voter list will be published on March 13–14. Candidates can collect nomination forms starting from March 15, while the initial candidate list will be published on April 9. The final list of candidates will be announced on April 17.

Candidates contesting for the president position must submit BDT 120,000, while the nomination fee for senior vice president is BDT 110,000. The vice president position requires BDT 105,000, general secretary BDT 100,000, joint secretary BDT 80,000, finance secretary BDT 70,000, and director BDT 50,000.

The election comes after significant leadership changes in e-CAB. Former president Shomi Kaiser resigned on August 13 last year, followed by the remaining executive members on August 29. The last resignation came from senior vice president Shahab Uddin Shipon on September 7. Subsequently, on September 11, the Ministry of Commerce appointed Muhammad Said Ali, Deputy Secretary of the Central Digital Cell, as the administrator of e-CAB.
