Nintendo Switch 2 to Debut Soon

Following the conclusion of CES, attention has shifted to announcements of new hardware. Recent rumors suggest that the next-generation hybrid console, Nintendo Switch 2, is on the horizon. According to TechCrunch, the highly anticipated device may be announced soon.

Reliable sources such as Eurogamer have indicated that the announcement could come as early as Thursday, January 16. However, it is speculated that Nintendo might opt for a phased information release through its Nintendo Direct platform rather than hosting a major conference.

Nintendo has confirmed that the new console will be unveiled by the end of Q1 2025 (before the end of March). Significantly, the Nintendo Switch 2 will include backward compatibility with its predecessor, a piece of welcome news for the over 150 million existing Nintendo Switch users.

Questions remain about the scale of the upgrade. Historically, Nintendo console names signal significant generational changes, though exceptions like the Wii U exist. It is believed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be an evolution of the current product rather than a completely new concept.

Before the Nintendo Switch debuted in 2017, Nintendo faced challenges in the gaming market. The convertible form factor and exceptional game library re-established the company’s stronghold in the industry.

While improved specifications are certain, Nintendo’s days of matching competitors in areas like GPU performance are considered long past. Rumors also hint at features such as magnetic Joy-Cons and an increase in screen size. The original Switch had a 6-inch screen, and the Switch OLED expanded to 7 inches. The Nintendo Switch 2 could potentially feature an 8-inch display. This would be in line with prior updates, such as the budget-friendly Switch Lite in 2019 and the OLED upgrade in 2021.

Nintendo fans now eagerly await the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2.
