LPG Price Spike: BERC Raises Cylinder and Autogas Rates with Digital Adjustment

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at the consumer level. Under the newly set rates, the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder has risen from Tk 1,341 to Tk 1,728. As a result, from 6:00 pm on the second day of April, consumers will have to pay an additional Tk 387 per cylinder. The price of autogas at the consumer level has also been increased by Tk 17.94.

The new prices were announced on Thursday, 2 April, in the afternoon at the BERC office by the commission’s Chairman Jalal Ahmed.

Under the revised pricing structure announced by BERC, the prices of LPG cylinders of various weights have also been adjusted. These include Tk 792 for a 5.5 kg cylinder, Tk 1,801 for 12.5 kg, Tk 2,161 for 15 kg, Tk 2,305 for 16 kg, Tk 2,593 for 18 kg, and Tk 2,881 for 20 kg cylinders.

Additionally, the price of a 22 kg cylinder has been set at Tk 3,169, 25 kg at Tk 3,601, 30 kg at Tk 4,321, 33 kg at Tk 4,753, 35 kg at Tk 5,041, and 45 kg at Tk 6,428.

Similarly, for the month of April, the consumer-level price of autogas has been increased by Tk 17.94, setting the VAT-inclusive price at Tk 79.77 per liter. Previously, on 2 March, the last adjustment had reduced the price of autogas by Tk 0.03, setting the VAT-inclusive rate at Tk 61.83 per liter.

Earlier, in March, LPG prices in the domestic market remained unchanged. However, on 23 February, the price of a 12 kg cylinder had been reduced by Tk 15 to Tk 1,341, and LPG had been sold at that rate until now.
