Microsoft, the technology giant, is rolling out a major update designed to make its popular Windows 11 operating system faster and more responsive. Following testing and evaluation by users in the Windows Insider programme, the update is now being made available to all users.

According to Microsoft, improvements in memory management and system efficiency have increased the operating system's responsiveness by up to 20%.

In particular, the system can now keep up to an additional 2GB of active data directly in memory during data processing, rather than transferring it to slower storage.

As a result, PCs can remain smooth and responsive even when users have multiple applications or browser tabs open simultaneously.

Special Benefits for PCs with Limited RAM

Rising memory chip prices have made upgrading computer RAM increasingly expensive. Against this backdrop, the update offers particular benefits for PCs equipped with 8GB of RAM or less.

On these computers, Windows will now load widgets only when users open them manually, helping free up more than 200MB of memory.

The update also introduces faster AirPods pairing over Bluetooth and makes the Windows Hello login process simpler and more reliable.

AI-Powered Search and a New Photos App

Users participating in the testing programme can now access a new AI-powered search feature unveiled last week. The search function has effectively been transformed into a chatbot, enabling users to perform thousands of tasks directly through the interface.

In addition, a redesigned Photos app can consolidate images from local storage, OneDrive and iCloud.

Microsoft claims that, in this new version, the native image viewer will operate 30% faster, while the built-in photo editor will deliver a 25% improvement in speed.
