Plan International Presents Press Prizes to 15 Journalists in Five Categories

Plan International has honored 15 journalists across five categories with its Media Awards, recognizing excellence in national, local, and online reporting. Among them, four recipients represented online news portals, two hailed from television, five from national newspapers, and four from special categories.

In the online news portal category, awards went to Zubair Ahmed of Daily Kaler Kantho, Al-Amin Hasan Adib and Yasir Arafat Ripon of Jago News, and Arafat Zubayer of Dhaka Post.

Al-Amin Hasan Adib completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Mass Communication and Journalism at Rajshahi University, where his journalism journey began. He started as Rajshahi University Correspondent for Daily Jugantor, later served as President of the Rajshahi University Journalists Association, and joined Barta24.com as a Staff Correspondent before moving to JagoNews24.com in 2020.

Yasir Arafat Ripon earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Philosophy from Jagannath University. Throughout his career, he has worked with several major media outlets, including Daily Sangbad, Ekattor Television (ETV), and BanglaNews24.com, before joining JagoNews24.com in November 2020.

Arafat Zubayer completed his education from Jahangirnagar University after studying at Motijheel Government Boys’ High School and Dhaka City College. With over a decade of experience in sports journalism, he worked at Daily Sangbad for eight years before joining Dhaka Post as a Senior Sports Reporter on December 1, 2020. He also serves as Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association.

In the television category, Meherin Anny of Ekhon TV and Jinia Kabir Suchana of Channel 24 received the award.

The national newspaper category included Md. Shaheerin Arafat of Daily Samakal, Rafiqul Islam of Daily Sun, Zafar Iqbal of Kalbela, Naznin Akhtar and Mansura Hossain of Prothom Alo.

From regional press, Awal Sheikh of Daily Janmobhumi (Khulna) and Shariful Rukon of Ekushey Patrika (Chattogram) were recognized. In the advertisement category, Shahed Shahrokh of Trim Pictures and Hasan Rezaul of Yantrakkhi Films were awarded.

The award ceremony took place on Monday, October 13, at the World Literature Centre in Banglamotor, Dhaka, where invited guests handed over the trophies to the recipients.

Distinguished guests included former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K. Chowdhury, Media Reform Commission chief Kamal Ahmed, Women’s Affairs Reform Commission member Halida Hanum Akhter, Plan International Bangladesh Country Director Kavita Bose, Jago Foundation Trust Senior Program Manager Iftikhar-ul-Karim, PIB Head of Studies Monira Sharmin, and members of the jury board.

The awards were jointly organized by Plan International Bangladesh and Jago Foundation Trust under the Youth for Equality project, with support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Dhaka.
