Fake Facebook Frenzy Frustrates Film Star Zahid Hasan
National Film Award-winning actor Zahid Hasan, known for his low profile on social media, has recently found himself troubled by a wave of fake Facebook accounts and pages using his name and family photos. One such fake page has already amassed close to one hundred thousand followers, leaving the veteran actor deeply embarrassed and concerned.
On October 10, Zahid Hasan identified and exposed one fake Facebook account and a page using his name by posting their screenshots on his verified Facebook profile. In the post, he warned his fans and colleagues, stating clearly, “These are not my Facebook accounts.” He urged everyone to avoid following any fake profiles or pages impersonating him.
However, within just 48 hours of his post, one of the fake accounts copied and reposted Zahid Hasan’s exact status word for word — apparently in an attempt to mislead people and discredit the actor’s real identity online.
Distressed by this growing deception, Zahid Hasan has requested his fans to stay connected only with his verified Facebook profile, which currently has more than 25,000 followers.
Speaking about the issue, Zahid Hasan said, “There are many Facebook accounts using my photos. They write various things pretending to be me. Some even copy my statuses and make me look fake. People are getting confused about which one is real and which is not. These are difficult times. I am worried that someone might misuse my photos and write something inappropriate in my name.”
The actor’s statement highlights an increasingly common problem faced by celebrities and public figures as impersonation and identity theft continue to spread across social media platforms.
