Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has secured the 15th position nationwide in the prestigious international research and scientific publication ranking, the Nature Index. With a share score of 0.20, the university’s achievement is being considered a significant milestone for engineering-based higher education and research in Bangladesh.

Published by Nature Portfolio since 2014, the Nature Index evaluates and preserves data on top research institutions and high-quality scientific research from around the world. According to the latest published ranking, a total of 68 institutions from Bangladesh—including 27 public and private universities and two medical colleges—have been listed.

The index was prepared based on research papers published in 145 high-quality pure science and medical journals between February 1 of last year and January 31 of the current year, along with researchers’ contributions. According to the Nature Index website, when multiple domestic and international institutions or researchers contribute to a study, the total contribution is divided fractionally, referred to as the “share score.” Final rankings are determined based on this score.

RUET officials believe the university’s inclusion in the international research index reflects its continuous progress and growing capability in research. They said stronger international collaboration, improved research laboratories, and increased funding could further strengthen RUET’s position in global rankings, including the Nature Index, in the future.

Director of the Student Welfare Office at RUET, Prof. Dr. Robiul Islam Sarkar, said the university’s inclusion in the Nature Index is a matter of great pride and joy. He noted that the achievement is not only recognition of research progress, but also a reflection of the collective efforts and academic dedication of teachers and students.

He added that alongside technology-focused higher education, RUET has been steadily advancing in research, and this achievement has made that progress more visible.

He further said that greater student involvement in research-oriented activities alongside academic studies would help strengthen the university’s international standing in the future. He also expressed hope that the recognition would inspire teachers and students to engage more actively in research.

Among academic institutions in the ranking, University of Dhaka secured the top position in Bangladesh. Other listed public universities include Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), University of Rajshahi, University of Chittagong, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, and Jahangirnagar University, among several other higher education institutions.
