Trump Team Targets Tech Triumph with New AI Draft Policy
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has released a draft policy aimed at achieving global leadership in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), according to a report by Reuters.
The newly proposed framework calls for making open-source and open-weight AI models available to developers worldwide, allowing anyone to download and modify them. “This move is intended to foster innovation and democratize access to AI technologies,” the document outlines.
Additionally, the proposal instructs the U.S. Department of Commerce to conduct research on the extent to which Chinese AI models reflect the ideology and censorship of the Communist Party.
The draft further advises that federal funding related to AI should not be allocated to states that impose stringent regulatory restrictions on AI development.
The overarching goal of this policy is to position the United States as the global leader in artificial intelligence while countering China's growing influence in the sector.
