Even a betel-leaf seller runs an online newspaper: Information Secretary
Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md. Maqbul Hossain said that the digital media of our country is like an ‘ocean’. It is said that even a ‘betel-leaf seller’ has an online newspaper. There are several online newspapers in the upazilas even. We have taken the initiative to stop all online portals without registration. I told BTCL about this. From there we were told that only 5 to 10 percent of domains are taken inland, the rest are taken from abroad. There are obstacles here too.
He expressed his view in a seminar organized by Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex organization of businessmen in Motijheel of the capital on Saturday (August 13).
FBCCI held a seminar titled 'The Need to Strike the Right Balance' on Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission's (BTRC) 'Digital and Social Media Platforms 2021' Draft Regulations and Ministry of Information's 'OTT Content Based Service Provision and Management Policy 2021' draft.
Posts Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mostafa Jabbar attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. President of FBCCI Md. Jasim Uddin and various businessmen and entrepreneurs involved in social media were present in the seminar.
