Google to Replace Assistant with Gemini on Android Devices

Google has announced that it will replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android phones later this year. In a blog post on Friday, the company stated that users will be gradually upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini over the next few months. Once this transition is complete, Assistant will no longer be available on mobile devices and will also be removed from app stores, according to a report by TechCrunch.
Google further revealed that Gemini will be introduced on tablets, cars, and other devices connected to phones, such as headphones and smartwatches. Additionally, it will enhance user experiences on home devices like smart speakers, displays, and televisions.
The company assured that users would be informed before Assistant services are discontinued, and until then, it will continue to function. Meanwhile, Google has integrated several popular features into Gemini, including playing music, setting timers, and issuing commands directly from the lock screen.
This transition is not unexpected, as Google recently made Gemini the default virtual assistant for its Pixel 9 series smartphones. The company claims that Gemini offers enhanced capabilities and provides information and assistance in innovative ways, particularly through its Gemini Live and Deep Research tools.
