Ministry Directs High Level Committee Setup
UGC Ordered to Resolve CUET Academic Crisis
- Education Ministry directs UGC to form high-level committee resolving CUET impasse
- Directive follows recommendations from CUET emergency syndicate meeting chaired by VC
- Action aims to urgently resume classroom lectures and restore administrative stability
Stepping in to resolve the ongoing administrative deadlock and resume classroom-based academic activities, the Ministry of Education has instructed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to form a high-level inquiry and advisory committee regarding Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).
A formal directive was issued on Sunday (October 18, 2026) by the University Wing under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education. Signed by Assistant Secretary Md. Sultan Ahmed, the letter officially requested the UGC Chairman to initiate necessary procedural steps.
Copies of the official order were also dispatched to the Vice-Chancellor of CUET and relevant stakeholders. The letter emphasized forming a committee at the UGC member level to evaluate the underlying crisis and urgently submit a concrete set of actionable recommendations to the ministry.
This ministerial intervention follows decisions taken during CUET's 145th emergency syndicate meeting, held virtually under the chairmanship of newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam. The syndicate had adopted three resolutions, including issuing calls for resuming physical classes, engaging local stakeholders, and requesting the ministry to form a high-powered advisory body. The ministry’s letter directly executes the third recommendation of the university syndicate.
