CAB Vice President addresses Decarbonization Climate Dialogue in Chattogram
Experts Urge Strategic Intellect Over Conventional Tech
- Calls to shift from conventional technology dependencies to merit-driven, visionary climate actions
- Dialogue reviews Chattogram's urban waterlogging, hill leveling, coastal vulnerabilities, and social crises
- Sikto Bangladesh, BRAC C3ER, and ISDE Bangladesh host youth climate networks
Addressing escalating climate vulnerabilities and ecological disruptions, Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Central Vice President S. M. Nazer Hossain has urged stakeholders to prioritize intellectual depth, strategic wisdom, and innovative talent over conventional technical dependencies. Relevant organizers shared details on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
He delivered the keynote remarks during a climate dialogue hosted by the Grassroots Network for Decarbonization at the ISDE Bangladesh Auditorium in Chandgaon, Chattogram, on Monday, 31 August 2026. The youth-centric session was organized by Sikto Bangladesh with technical and institutional support from BRAC University’s Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) and ISDE Bangladesh.
Nazer Hossain stated, "Global temperatures are rising uncontrollably, rendering regions ecologically hostile, with developing frontline nations like Bangladesh bearing the brunt of severe disaster frequencies. While public climate initiatives exist, they remain confined to conventional technological and bureaucratic formulas. Without mobilizing grassroots innovators and genuine domain researchers, interventions risk being co-opted by opportunistic circles, impairing Bangladesh's alignment with international decarbonization standards."
Moderated by ISDE Associate Administrative Officer Abdul Mannan Jihad, the session was addressed by CAB Chattogram City Joint General Secretary Mohammad Selim Jahangir alongside youth representatives from Youth Voice for Change, Youth Innovation for Action, and Ushar Alo Youth Association.
The open forum reviewed critical environmental emergencies across the southeastern coast, focusing on Chattogram's severe urban waterlogging, devastating seasonal flash floods, hill-cutting degradation, and climate-induced social vulnerabilities such as child marriage in displaced households. Participants advocated for institutionalizing decentralized youth climate actions to drive sustainable grassroots adaptation.
