In a major verdict against telecom sector financial crimes, a Dhaka court has sentenced the Managing Director Obhiur Rahman Khan and Chairman Mohi Uddin Mazumder of International Gateway (IGW) operator Apple Global Telecommunications Limited to 22 years of imprisonment for laundering over 463 crore BDT derived from international call termination services.

Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict on Monday (October 19, 2026).

ACC Prosecutor Mohammad Zahirul Islam confirmed that the convicts received 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for money laundering alongside a penalty of 926.74 crore BDT—double the laundered sum of 463.37 crore BDT ($60.17 million). Failure to pay will result in an additional year of simple imprisonment. Furthermore, the court handed down 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a 10 lakh BDT fine for breach of trust.

The court explicitly ruled that if the convicts fail to pay the monetary fines, all their personal and corporate movable and immovable properties will be confiscated by the state. As both corporate executives remain absconding, conviction and arrest warrants have been issued, confirmed court stenographer Sohanur Rahman.

According to official case details, ACC Director Jalal Uddin Ahammad filed the lawsuit on February 23, 2022, alleging that the IGW operator siphoned off $60.17 million earned from processing international incoming call traffic through Bangladesh's telecom routing infrastructure.

Following formal investigations, a charge sheet was submitted on March 25 last year. The court framed charges on August 6 and examined 7 out of 8 witnesses before finalizing the conviction.
