SpaceX Seals xAI Deal in World’s Largest Acquisition
In what is being described as the world’s largest acquisition deal, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI has been acquired by SpaceX. Announcing the deal on Monday, Musk said the acquisition marks another major step forward in his long-standing goal of integrating artificial intelligence with space technology. Reuters reported the development.
According to the report, SpaceX has been valued at $1 trillion in the deal, while xAI’s valuation stands at $250 billion.
Under the terms of the acquisition, xAI investors will receive 0.1433 shares of SpaceX for each xAI share they hold. Some executives will also have the option to receive cash instead of shares.
As a result of the transaction, the AI capabilities of xAI—best known as the developer of the Grok chatbot—will be integrated with SpaceX’s rocket and satellite infrastructure. Analysts believe this integration could open up new possibilities in data centers and space-based communications.
Market observers say the merger further consolidates Musk’s business empire ahead of a potential initial public offering (IPO). However, they also caution that Musk’s leadership roles across multiple companies, along with his firms’ extensive government contracts, could invite increased regulatory scrutiny.
