Midland Bank Secures Mastercard License Secures Mastercard License
Midland Bank PLC has obtained a license from Mastercard.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, 3 February, the bank said that its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Md. Ahsan Uz Zaman, formally received the Mastercard principal membership license from Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of Mastercard Bangladesh. The handover ceremony took place on Sunday, 1 February, at the bank’s head office in Dhaka.
Through this partnership, Midland Bank is now established as a Mastercard-approved member, enabling it to issue Mastercard credit, debit, and prepaid cards. As a result, the bank’s customers will be able to access global ATM, POS, and e-commerce transactions.
The license also unlocks access to digital wallet integration, cross-border payments, and other innovative Mastercard digital services, facilitating faster and more secure day-to-day banking.
Senior officials from both organizations were present at the license handover ceremony. From Midland Bank, attendees included Deputy Managing Director and CRO Md. Zahid Hossain; Deputy Managing Director and Head of IT and CTO Md. Nazmul Huda Sarkar; SEVP and Head of Institutional Banking Md. Javed Tarek Khan; and Head of Retail Distribution and Chief Bancassurance Officer Md. Rashed Akhtar. Representing Mastercard was its Director, Sohel Alim.
