KUET welcomes new Vice-Chancellor Maksud Helali.
Professor Dr. Md. Maksud Helali has joined Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) as its Vice-Chancellor (VC). He is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
He joined the university's administrative building on Friday evening, July 25th. Earlier, he entered the campus at 4 PM and inquired about various departments.
On Thursday, July 24th, the Ministry of Education issued a notification appointing this retired BUET teacher as the VC, two months and two days after his retirement. He has been appointed for a term of four years.
This information was conveyed in a notification issued by the 'Scholarship and Engineering University Branch' of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
Previously, KUET was without a VC after the interim VC, Professor Dr. Hazrat Ali, resigned. Subsequently, on July 15th, the Ministry of Education issued a notification granting Mohammad Jaminur Rahman, Director of the Public University Management Department of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, financial authority until a VC was appointed. However, a new VC has been appointed even before he could join and begin his duties. However, teachers, who had been boycotting classes since May 4th, had indicated that they would return to classes once a VC was appointed. With this appointment, there are no more obstacles to resuming classes at KUET. Relevant parties believe that classes may begin as early as next Sunday.
