Grameenphone, the leading telecommunications and digital infrastructure service provider in Bangladesh, has officially announced the launch of the second edition of ‘Futuremakers’—an artificial intelligence-focused competitive platform targeted at tertiary-level students. The initiative seeks to mobilize engineering principles and AI-driven innovations to address complex real-world socioeconomic and technical challenges.
The development was confirmed by official sources on 2 September 2026, Wednesday. Originally founded in 2025, this year’s competition centers on the theme "AI for Social Good." It remains open to students across all disciplines, bridging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with non-STEM fields, to promote the ethical, responsible, and practical deployment of emerging technologies.
The second season features six core technical and thematic tracks: Digital Inclusion and Education; Healthcare and Mental Well-being; Skill Development and Employment Opportunities; Gender Equality and Social Inclusion; Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action; and Cybersecurity, Physical Safety, and Data Privacy.
Eligible university students can register online individually or in teams of up to three members using their academic credentials by 30 September 2026, Wednesday. Submissions will be evaluated by an expert assessment panel drawn from industry leaders, tech startup founders, and technical experts from Grameenphone. Shortlisted cohorts will advance to a specialized concept pitch and access the mentor-guided "Ignition Chamber" to optimize their algorithmic architecture, prototype functionality, and go-to-market feasibility before delivering their solutions at the grand finale gala.
Alongside financial grants and awards, top performers will secure priority consideration for placement within Grameenphone’s flagship developmental pathways.
Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Grameenphone, Sayeda Tahya Hossain, remarked, "The exponential evolution of artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming how humanity learns, creates, innovates, and solves systemic problems. Developing technical proficiency to comprehend and harness AI is vital for driving active participation in today's digital economy. Through Futuremakers and this year's focus on 'AI for Social Good', we aspire to inspire youth beyond surface-level technology adoption, empowering them to engineer scalable, responsible, and measurable solutions for tangible community impact."
