OpenAI is planning to integrate its widely discussed video generation tool Sora into ChatGPT. The information was reported by news agency Reuters citing the US-based media outlet The Information.

The strategic move is aimed at further increasing the usage of ChatGPT. At present, ChatGPT has approximately 920 million weekly active users, which is slightly below the company’s target of 1 billion users. Rival Google’s Gemini already offers video creation capabilities through its VEO model.

Last September, OpenAI launched a standalone mobile application called Sora, which allowed users to create and share short AI-generated videos similar to those on TikTok. However, at the beginning of 2026, downloads and user spending on the app declined significantly. In January, Sora’s downloads dropped by 45 percent compared to the previous month, and the app fell out of the top 100 list on Apple’s US App Store.

In this context, OpenAI has decided to bring Sora into the core ChatGPT platform. As a result, users will be able to generate AI videos directly within ChatGPT. However, there are concerns that this integration could significantly increase the operational costs of ChatGPT.

The company is also expected to continue operating the standalone Sora app as before. OpenAI has recently cancelled its six-month-old plan to introduce direct shopping features within ChatGPT. The company has not yet issued any official statement regarding the integration of Sora into ChatGPT.
