Google Drive has introduced a new feature that allows users to view and search video transcripts directly within the platform. The tech giant announced on Monday that users can now access transcripts of their uploaded videos and search for specific parts with ease, according to TechCrunch.
Last year, Google Drive rolled out automatic captions, and this new feature builds on that by enabling users to view full transcripts without needing third-party transcription services.
The new feature displays the transcript in a sidebar while the video plays, with the spoken dialogue highlighted in real time. Google stated that this enhancement will help users quickly locate specific moments in a video and better understand its content.
To view a transcript, users need to play a video on Google Drive, click the gear icon at the bottom right, and select the "Transcript" option. It’s essential that the video has captions enabled; if the "CC" icon is active, it indicates captions are available.
Users can also add captions by going to the "Manage Caption Tracks" option and selecting "Generate Automatic Captions."
Google confirmed that the new transcript feature will roll out over the next few weeks to Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google account holders.
