The growing influence of mobile financial services (MFS) in advancing Bangladesh’s digital economy and fostering a cashless society has been highlighted once again by Nagad, the digital financial service of the Bangladesh Post Office. The platform has achieved its highest-ever monthly transaction volume, breaking all previous records in May and setting a new milestone in the country's digital financial ecosystem.

Driven by heightened customer demand ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, Nagad recorded multiple single-day transaction records during the month. The number of active users also increased significantly, underscoring the expanding role of digital financial services in bringing millions of previously unbanked citizens into the formal financial system.

According to transaction data, Nagad processed a total of Tk 44,639 crore in transactions during May, marking the highest monthly volume in the platform’s history.

The previous record was set in March this year when customers conducted transactions worth Tk 41,469 crore through the platform. In January, transaction volume stood at Tk 40,301 crore. As a result, Nagad has surpassed its own historical transaction records in at least four of the past six months.

Multiple Daily Transaction Records Broken

The surge in activity became particularly evident during the week leading up to Eid-ul-Adha and the nationwide cattle market season.

On May 24 alone, Nagad recorded transactions worth Tk 2,162 crore in a single day. Just two days later, on May 26, that record was broken again when daily transactions reached Tk 2,177 crore. Earlier, on May 20, the platform had already processed Tk 2,105 crore in transactions within a single day.

Industry observers attribute the growth to increased demand for cash-in and cash-out services, remittance disbursement, mobile recharges, utility bill payments, and digital purchases during the Eid season.

The platform also played a significant role in distributing various government social safety net allowances and financial assistance programs during the month, further contributing to the rise in transaction volumes.

Affordable Services Driving Customer Growth

Commenting on the record-breaking performance, Mohammad Motasim Billah, the administrator appointed to Nagad by Bangladesh Bank, said the platform’s customer-friendly and innovative services continue to attract users across the country.

According to him, Nagad has become a trusted financial service for ordinary citizens and working-class people largely because its transaction costs remain lower than those of competing platforms.

He noted that customers can save up to Tk 6.50 per Tk 1,000 when cashing out through Nagad, making it one of the most cost-effective mobile financial services currently available in Bangladesh.

Focus on Security and Financial Inclusion

Billah further highlighted that the platform offers free send-money services and attractive benefits for receiving remittances. He also emphasized the company’s investment in advanced technological infrastructure to ensure maximum security for customer transactions.

He said the combination of affordability, convenience, and strong security measures has contributed significantly to growing public confidence in the platform.

Industry analysts believe the continued expansion of mobile financial services is helping accelerate financial inclusion, strengthen rural economic activity, and support Bangladesh’s broader vision of building a smart and digitally connected society.

As digital payments increasingly become part of everyday life, Nagad’s latest achievement reflects the rapid transformation taking place within Bangladesh’s financial services sector and the growing adoption of cashless transactions across the country.
