To strengthen its customer connections, tech giant Apple is making limited layoffs within its global sales team. In a statement released on Monday, the company said that only a small number of positions are affected by the decision. At the same time, Apple confirmed that its hiring efforts remain active and that employees whose roles were eliminated have been encouraged to apply for other positions within the company, according to a Reuters report.

Bloomberg reported that the layoffs include account managers who worked with large businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies. Employees at Apple’s briefing centers—responsible for conducting demonstrations and meetings for prospective clients—have also been affected.

The report further notes that a team responsible for working with U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice, has been hit the hardest. A 43-day government shutdown and pressure from the government’s cost-cutting initiative known as “DOJE” had already created challenges for this group.

In recent weeks, several other tech companies—including Verizon, Synopsys, and IBM—have also announced layoffs.
