Palak Inaugurates the Huawei-BUET ICT Academy

Huawei, the world's leading ICT infrastructure provider, has jointly established the ICT Academy with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), a renowned engineering university in the country, with the aim of imparting skills to young students in ICT as well as building ICT talent and ecosystems. An inaugural ceremony was held today (March 23) at the BUET Council building to mark the occasion. State Minister for ICT, Government of Bangladesh Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited CEO Pan Junfeng and BUET Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satya Prasad Majumdar and others were present on the occasion. The ICT Academy, established as part of non-profit education activities, will provide training and education to the students as per the demand of the industry. Another major objective of this academy is to build a talent ecosystem for the ICT sector. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with more than three thousand instructors from around the world. According to the current plan, the academy will have 83 certification programs in 19 different subjects. Courses and certifications will be coordinated by Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA). At the end of the course, students will be awarded three types of grade certificates from this ICT Academy based on their results - Associate, Professional and Expert. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “We have seen that Huawei BUET ICT Academy can do a great job which will be beneficial for both students and teachers. The academy was established in a short time under a memorandum of understanding signed between Huawei and BUET. I would like to express my sincere congratulations to Huawei for setting up this academy at BUET.” In this regard, the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Satya Prasad Majumder said, “We are very happy to be able to work together with Huawei in establishing ICT Academy. This academy will play an important role in BUET's current education curriculum; At the same time, it enables students to become proficient by acquiring practical knowledge; Besides, they will get various theoretical and practical ideas about the industry. ” Pan Junfeng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd., said, “Since 2013, Huawei has been working on the ICT Academy project to help build the ICT ecosystem. Huawei is very happy to be able to expand this project in Bangladesh. The Huawei ICT Academy will continue to work ‘in Bangladesh, for Bangladesh’ and strive to excel by collaborating with academics and industry experts on young students. " In this regard, BUET Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Jabbar Khan said, “As a university of engineering and technology, BUET has always played a leading role in creating skilled manpower for the industry. I hope that the establishment of an ICT academy in collaboration with Huawei will accelerate this." Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) IICT Director Prof. Dr. Rubaiyat Hossain Mandal said, “Innovations in the ICT sector will play a positive role in sustainable growth, economy, productivity and transformation of the job market. This ICT academy will further strengthen the bridge between academia and industry; At the same time, it will contribute to the creation of skilled manpower in Bangladesh by providing quality ICT training. ” BUET Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan said, “I would like to thank everyone involved in this project; Because, we needed such an academy very much. We are going through a transformation process. Those with knowledge and skills in the industry will be instrumental in moving this transformation process forward. This academy will also be able to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Huawei has more than 1,500 such ICT academies in more than 90 countries around the world. So far, the academy has started conducting activities in different countries of the world including Pakistan, Zambia and China. Initially, Huawei will start the journey of BUET ICT Academy with about 250 students.
