Nubaysha, the golden girl received the gold medal
Nubaysha Islam of Sylhet won the first place among 192 countries in the 50th letter writing competition of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Planning Minister MA Mannan handed over the gold medal to her at the Circuit House in Sylhet at 4.30 pm on Saturday.
Mr. Mostafa Jabbar, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Mr. Khalilur Rahman, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications were virtually connected to the function presided over by Mr. Siraj Uddin, Director General, Department of Posts.
On the occasion, the Planning Minister thanked Nubaysha Islam, her parents and teachers for the rare achievement.
"We have a lot to be proud of as a nation," he said. He hoped that Nubaysha's achievement in the international letter writing competition would be a source of inspiration for our new generation to move forward.
He called upon all to work for building an egalitarian society. The Minister emphasized the need for social discipline and unity. He appreciated the role of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, the Department of Posts and Telecommunications and the Department of Posts for such a program.
The Minister for Posts and Telecommunications handed over the UPU Gold Medal to Nubaysha and termed it as a historic event and said that Bangladesh became a member of the UPU in 1973 through the efforts made by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On the 50th anniversary of our independence, in the 50th letter writing competition of UPU, achieving the gold medal by Nubaysha made us proud.
Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Khalilur Rahman said, not only Nubaysha has won the competition among 192 countries, rather through her winning, Bangladesh has won. Nubaysha has proved that the children of Bangladesh can do everything.
On October 9, World Postal Day, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mostafa Jabbar, formally congratulated Nubaysha Islam and her parents at the Dak Bhaban in Dhaka and handed over a congratulatory memento.
Sylhet Police Commissioner Mozammel Haque and Sylhet Medical University VC Dr. Morshed Ahmad Chowdhury delivered the keynote address.
Nubaysha Islam has won the prize of excellence by defeating millions of teenagers in the 50th letter writing competition of the World Postal Organization (UPU). The subject of writing the letter in the competition was 'COVID-19'. In a letter to his unborn sister, Nubaisha mentioned the fear of death and the loss of relatives during the Corona pandemic. At the same time expressed great optimism for a better time.
Nubaysha's family lives in the East Shahi Eidgah area of Sylhet city. Their village home is in Ambaria village of Dharmagarh UP in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj. The results of the competition were announced on August 27 from the Head Quarters of UPU in Switzerland. After the results were published, the World Postal Organization made a video documentary about Nubaysha and published it on the organization's YouTube channel and website.
