Floppy disks were a well-known device to computer users in the 1990s. The floppy disk was first released by International Business Machines (IBM). Although it is not currently used at the individual or institutional level, many countries used it for some basic purposes. Floppy disks will no longer be used in any medium in Japan. News Engadget.

Recently, Japan's digital agency has announced the matter. The country used old floppy disks to operate government computer systems.

The only Japanese department that still uses floppy disks is the Vehicle Recycling Office, which oversees the country's environment. In 2022, Japan's digital minister, Taro Kono, announced the start of a war against 1990s computer technology shortly after being appointed to the Digital Agency. Japan used floppy disks and other outdated technologies, such as fax machines, CDs, mini disks, in about 1,900 government functions.
