Digital technology will change conventional farming: Mostafa Jabbar

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that digital technology will change the way of farming in all parts of the country, including Haors. The big crisis of the digital technology age is the crisis of employment of educated people in general education. The government is determined to overcome this crisis. He was speaking as the chief guest at a virtual function organized by Huawei Technology (Bangladesh) Limited to distribute relief to flood victims in Khaliajuri Upazila of Netrokona district on Saturday. Khaliajuri Upazila Awami League Acting President Md. Ataur Rahman, General Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, CEO of Huawei Technology (Bangladesh) Ltd. Zhang Zhengjian, Upazila Chairman (Acting) Sumon Chakraborty, Ariful Islam, Netrokona District Council member Golam Abu Ishaq and local Awami League leader Nazim Uddin Sarkar spoke in the program. The minister said it was unthinkable to have a virtual program in haor from Dhaka. ‘In the rainy season it turns into sea and in the autumn it becomes a desert’, said the minister to explain physiographical reality of haor areas. Mentioning the communication here, Mostafa Jabbar, the commander of Mujib's forces in the liberation war in the Haor area quoted the proverb "boats in the rain and walking in the autumn". He added that the way of life here has changed in the last 12 years under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. ICT companies are now operating from Haor. From a village 5 miles away in Dharmapasha, outsourcing is being done in 21 countries of the world. There are now 48 programmers working there. Referring to the achievements of Digital Bangladesh, Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, a pioneer in computer development, said that the Internet has reached the whole haor through Teletalk. Communication and education have changed radically. He said that at one time there was no institution of secondary education in Haor after the fifth class. University college has also been established here now. Referring to Khaliajuri, the stronghold of the people of Bangabandhu's ideology, the Minister said that the people of Khaliajuri i.e. Haor are enjoying the benefits of the contribution made by their ancestors as Bangabandhu's soldiers. He lauded the role of Huawei in providing assistance to the victims of Haor and said that the role that Huawei has been playing in the expansion of telecom technology is very helpful in building a digital Bangladesh. "I am by your side as a human being," he said. Speakers at the event highlighted the various programs undertaken by the government including development of digital technology, communication and agriculture and expressed hope that this progress would continue.
