Digital technology to ensure safety at Qurbani Haat

The use of digital technology is gradually increasing to ensure the safety of Qurbani haats, the market for sacrificial animals. Apart from limited CCTV footage and online animal trading, the government is now giving utmost importance to cashless transactions. As a part of this, Local Government and Rural Development Cooperative Minister Tajul Islam instructed the Bangladesh Bank to implement cashless transactions through ATM booths, point of sales (PoS) machines, mobile financial services (MFS) in every market along with mobile counterfeit detection machines during the upcoming Eid al-Adha.

The minister gave this instruction at a meeting to review the overall preparation regarding the management of sacrificial animal markets, the implementation of animal sacrifice at specific places and the management of sacrificial waste on the occasion of upcoming Eid-ul-Adha in the conference room of the Ministry of Local Government at the Secretariat on Thursday (May 30).

 Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, South City Corporation representative, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Zayeda Khatun along with officials of various ministries and related departments were present.

When asked about the fake money detection machines installation in animal markets across the country, he said, the machine that detects fake money is a mobile machine. As a result, this machine will be everywhere.

Regarding the decision of the meeting, the minister also said that we have taken several decisions unanimously in the meeting today. These include removing animal waste before sunrise on the day after sacrifice, not setting up hide markets on Gabtoli Bridge, ensuring the supply of fattened and disease-free cows in a hygienic manner and setting up a booth in every market and extensive publicity on website/digital display/mic/leaflet/banner/cable operators and so on.

Tajul Islam said that the district administrators will ensure the implementation of these decisions through a virtual meeting with the municipal mayor, upazila parishad chairman and union parishad chairman and will conduct mobile court if necessary.
