Death of BUET student Sunny: Investigation report submission delayed again on October 16

The court has fixed October 16 as the date for submitting the investigation report of the case filed regarding the death of Tarikuzzaman Sunny, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) who drowned in the water of Padma at Moinotghat in Dohar Upazila of Dhaka district.

Tuesday (September 19) was the date of submission of the investigation report of the case. However, the investigating officer of the case, Qutubpur Naval Police Station SI (Unarmed) Zahirul Islam could not submit the report. For this reason, Dhaka Judicial Magistrate M Saiful Islam set a new day for submitting the report.

Earlier, August 22 was scheduled as the date of submission of the investigation report of the case. As it was not submitted even on that day, the date of submitting the investigation report of the case was postponed to September 19.

According to the source of the case, on July 14, 2022, 15-16 youths went to the Padma River together. Sunny went missing after evening. Dohar police reached the spot on the information given by the locals at night. Then the diving team of the fire service reached the spot. Sunny's body was recovered on the morning of July 15.

After the autopsy, the student's body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Sunny's elder brother Hasaduzzaman filed a murder case against 15 people in this incident that afternoon. The accused in the case are - Shariful Hossain, Shakil Ahmed, Sejan Ahmed, Md. Rubel, Md. Sajib, Md. Nuruzzaman, Md. Nasir, Md. Maruf, Md. Ashraful Alam, Md. Jahangir Hossain Liton, Md. Noman, Md. Zahid, ATM Shahriar Momin, Md. Maruful Haque and Roknuzzaman alias Jitu. The police also remanded them for questioning after their arrest. They are currently in jail after remand.
