Bangladesh tops Asia in University Rover Challenge

The United International University (UIU) Mars rover team has won the first place in Asia in the University Rover Challenge 2022 organized by the Mars Society. The competition was held from June 1-4 at the Mars Desert Research Station in southern Utah, USA. Five teams from Bangladesh took part in the final round of the competition. In the final round of three days, the participating teams showcased their rover capabilities and operational skills. To do this, the Rovers have had to successfully complete the four missions of Search, Automatic Navigation, Extreme Situation Ability and Equipment Servicing. Out of 36 teams in the finals, the UIU Mars Rover team achieved 13th position, but ranked 1st among Asian teams. In this round, Bangladesh team competed with competitors from 10 countries including USA, Poland, India, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Mexico and Turkey. The winning UIU team was supervised by Akib Zaman, a lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering at the university. The team is made up of more than 25 students from the UIU Robotics Club. The student lead of this project is Rakib Hasan of CSE Department of UIU. Other sub-teams are led by Deep Chakraborty (Vice Lead and Management Sub-Team Lead), Abid Hossain (Mechanical Sub-Team Lead), Ahmed Junaid Tanim (Electrical Sub-Team Lead), Abdullah Al Masood (Software Sub-Team Lead), TM Al Anam (Communication Sub-Team) And Zidane Talukder (Science Subteam lead).
