New EC of BASIS takes charge amid the challenges of continuation of tax holiday
The Executive Council of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) 2024-2026 was formed with the conviction to achieve self-sufficiency in indigenous software in the implementation of Smart Bangladesh. Former Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar, BASIS Founder President Abu Tawhid, former President Sarwar Alam, Habibullah N Karim attended the handover ceremony to the new council at BASIS Conference Center on Saturday.
They welcomed the office bearers of the new committee with flowers. The election board gave floral greetings to the attendants.
In the event, BASIS former president and tech-personality Mustafa Jabbar said that the biggest challenge in front of the new committee is to keep the tax holiday continued. It is a burden like a mountain. I think the software and internet sector have to fight from today, taking the other 4 trade organizations with them. He called to use social media in this regard.
Former BASIS President Sarwar Alam urged to move forward with the times; not merely focusing on digital or smart goal.
BASIS Election Management Board Chairman TIM Nurul Kabir delivered a welcome speech on the occasion and called on the winners and losers to develop BASIS as a knowledge-based industry together. He stressed on inculcating empathy and respect to restore the dignity of BASIS. Apart from BASIS election management board member Mamnoon Quader, Nazim Farhan Chowdhury, BASIS election appeal board chairman A Tauhid and appeal board member Nazneen Kamal were also present.
Outgoing senior vice president Samira Zuberi Himika proposed to amend the BASIS constitution. Vice President Abu Dawood Khan emphasized the orientation of the new members to inform them of the SOPs and the formulation of new action plans involving everyone to activate the committees.
Team Creative Chief Executive Officer Russell T Ahmed was elected president for the second term in the absolute victory of 8 members of 'One Team' in the executive council of 11 members and M Rashidul Hasan, managing director of Systech Digital Limited, was elected as senior vice president.
Mastercard Bangladesh Country Manager Syed Mohammad Kamal was elected Vice President (Administration) and Divine IT Managing Director Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan was elected Vice President (Finance).
Managing Director of Advanced ERP BD Limited, Mostafizur Rahman Sohel; the chief Executive Officer of Shooting Star Limited, Didarul Alam; the founder of AR Communications, M Asif Rahman; the chairman of Analysis Bangladesh Limited Dr. Muhammad Risalat Siddique; Managing Director of Bondstein Technologies Limited Mir Shahrukh Islam; Director of Carnival Assure Limited Biplab Ghosh Rahul and Chief Executive Officer of Finalitics Syed Abdullah Zayed has been elected as Directors of BASIS.
All the formalities related to the election of BASIS were completed within the time frame set by the Department of Trade Organizations (DTO) of the Ministry of Commerce through the handover ceremony of the Executive Council held at the BASIS Auditorium.
On the occasion, re-elected and Eleventh BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed said, 'I have been elected for the 5th time and the members have increased by 54 percent in my previous term. Now I am assured that everyone will cooperate with us.'
This time I will work to build a new leadership, he added.
He said, "Even if I reject the vice president offer to Sohail Bhai, he and two others with him will give double effort."
The election of the Executive Council for the 2024-2026 period of BASIS, the national trade body of the country's information technology sector, was completed in a festive atmosphere at the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation, Gulshan in the capital on May 8. In the election, the Russell T Ahmed-led panel 'One Team' won 8 out of 11 seats and won a majority. Mostafizur Rahman Sohel led panel 'Team Smart' got 3 posts.
