VEON CEO Voices Confidence in Bangladesh’s Business Climate

Following the formation of a new government led by Tarique Rahman after victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, VEON Group Chief Executive Officer Kaan Terzioglu paid a one-day whirlwind visit to Bangladesh. During the visit, he expressed optimism that the business environment in Bangladesh would improve under the new government.

On behalf of VEON, he congratulated the new government for achieving a significant milestone through a democratic election and reiterated VEON’s interest in continuing to expand digital services and investments in Bangladesh.

According to sources, during the brief visit on 19 February, Terzioglu expressed this interest in a meeting with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General Md. Emdad Ul Bari (Retd.). Also present on behalf of the regulatory authority was Commissioner Mahmud Hossain. From VEON Group’s company and mobile phone operator Banglalink, Chief Executive Officer Johan Buse and Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman were in attendance.

At the meeting, the VEON CEO said that alongside conventional mobile services, the company is strengthening its activities in digital services. In particular, emphasis is being placed on financial technology-based services so that a broader segment of the population can come under the umbrella of digital benefits.

During the discussion, BTRC Chairman Emdad Ul Bari highlighted the progress of the country’s telecommunications sector and outlined future plans. He also mentioned the regulatory authority’s policy support in expanding technology-driven services.

Both sides expressed optimism about enhancing mutual cooperation and working together for the sustainable development of the digital sector.
