10 women scientists awarded grants in health research
10 women scientists have received a grant of Tk 35 lakh for their special contribution in research in the health sector.
Health Minister Zahid Malek handed over certificates and grant checks to 10 women scientists. Five of them are working in ICDDR,B and the rest are working in different organizations of the country.
500 researchers were selected for this grant. Later, the department awarded grants to these 10 women from them.
The health research grant and award was handed over on Tuesday at the International Center for Diarrhea Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in the capital on the occasion of the Mujib centenary.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Health Minister Zahid Malek said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has always urged for research. He attaches special importance to medical research. Today, 10 women scientists have been honored for their special contributions to research. This proves that we have come a long way in empowering women. In the medical sector, 75% of the total students are women. We want them to go further. In all cases, they should work shoulder to shoulder with men.
Scientist Dr. Ferdousi Kaderi, and Director General of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam were was present among others while the occasion was presided over by Dr. Shamsul Arefin, Director (Motherhood and Children), ICDDR,B.
