People grieves but there are thieves
Jatiya Sangsad Whip and Joypurhat-2 MP Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan lost his smartphone from his father's Janaza (funeral) prayers. Meanwhile, the thieves stole the smartphones of six more people who had taken part in the janaza of his father Sharif Uddin Mandal.
Others who lost their phones include Jamil Hossain Chalanta, Mayor of Hakimpur municipality in Dinajpur, Jihad Mandal, Chairman candidate of Awami League in Kusumba union of the upazila, and Sabuj Mandal, president of Astha Samaj Kalyan Sangstha.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchbibi Police Station Palash Chandra Dev confirmed the incident. He said that mobile phones of seven persons including a Mr. Whip were stolen from the Janaza. The theft took place amid thousands of people at the janaza despite police security. Police have launched an operation to recover the smartphones.
The theft took place at Panchbibi Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium in Joypurhat on Tuesday (January 18) morning
