BUET stands still
With the demand from general students to retain the BUET campus free from student politics and ensuring the safety and security of the campus along with some other points to maintain the educational environment at the campus in one side; on the other hand, Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party, demanding the permanent expulsion of the 34 BUET students arrested in July last year at Tanguar Howar in Sunamganj, six-point demand, flexible position of the VC and ultimatum of Chhatra League to start student politics and some statements of the top Chhatra League leaders have thrown the situation in the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-BUET campus standstill since Sunday.
The BUET was empty even at 11 am on Monday (April 1) as the agitating students boycotted classes and exams for the fourth day. A couple of students were seen towards the administrative building, but in front of the academic building, nothing but silence prevails there.
However, the university office is open. Several private cars were seen in front of the office. Office work is going on as usual. Although there is a boycott of academic activities on behalf of the students, some students were seen taking part in Master's Civil Engineering Final Examination on Sunday afternoon at Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury Civil Engineering Building Rooms No. 201, 202, 203.
However, on Monday, a security guard of the university said that no student has come to class since morning. The campus is completely empty. This is the situation for the last three days.
