AKM Shahiduzzaman buried in Rayerbazar

AKM Shahiduzzaman, Commissioner of Spectrum Management of BTRC, a telecommunications regulator who breathed his last on Sunday night, left his long workplace for the forever on Tuesday morning. His first janaza prayer was held in front of the BTRC head office in Ramna at 11 am. Current and old colleagues and devotees from BTRC took part in funeral prayer. Earlier, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder expressed his condolences over the death of the deceased. Other commissioners, including Mohiuddin Ahmed, Abu Syed Dilzar Hossain and Brigadier General Nasim Parvez, Director General of Systems and Services, were also moved by the memory. At the end of Janaza prayers, BTRC family paid homage to him with flowers. Secretary of the Ministry of Telecommunications Md. Khalilur Rahman, former Secretary Md. Afzal Hossain, former Chairman of BTRC and current Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Satellite Company Ltd. Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sharfuddin Ahmed were present at that time. After the first janaza, the corpse of Mr. Shahiduzzaman was carried to Mohammapur where he had been living for so long. The second namaz-e-janaza was held at the Jame Mosque on Iqbal Road. The body was then taken to the Rayerbazar cemetery. The late AKM Shahiduzzaman Mintu was laid there for eternal sleep. Engineer AKM Shahiduzzaman was born on 13 November 1960 in Jhalokathi, Barisal to a reputed Muslim family. He was a historian and pioneer in the telecom and ICT sector in Bangladesh. He also had experience with a wide range of technical and legal policy-making and regulatory issues related to telecom and ICT. He was a Senior Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. He graduated from Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) in 1989 with a first class degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). Prior to this, he did his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Barisal Polytechnic Institute (BPI) in 1983. He passed his SSC from Patuakhali Government Jubilee High School and HSC from Patuakhali Government College. He had been serving as the Commissioner of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) from 11 January 2021. Which was one of the major government agencies for the development of the entire telecommunication ecosystem in Bangladesh. Prior to that, he played a key role in the BTRC since its inception in 2002 and until his retirement in 2019. He was the Deputy Director of BTRC from 2002 to 2004, the Director from 2004 to 2010 and the Director General from 2010 to 2019.
