- Global Facebook Messenger outage
- Computer users faced severe disruption
- Services restored 3:40 PM
Facebook has returned to web browsers on desktops and laptops. The social media platform returned to normal after nearly one and a half hours. Suddenly, many users in Bangladesh faced difficulties using the popular social media platforms Facebook and Messenger.
While entering the website, some faced slow speeds, while others encountered a complete standstill. Issues also appeared in sending messages, viewing newsfeeds, or making calls on the mobile app. As a result, operations ranging from personal communication to business activities were affected.
The disruption began on July 19, Sunday, after 1:30 PM, when many users started sharing their experiences on social media. Later, Facebook became fully functional and active again after 3:40 PM in the afternoon.
Sudden Severe Outage in Facebook Messenger
In many cases, even if Facebook opened, new posts were not loading, and messages sent on Messenger were not going through or showed 'sending' for a long time. However, this problem was mainly observed on the Facebook web version. Many users reported at the time that the Facebook app on mobile phones could be used normally. According to Downdetector sources, this problem on Facebook started 45 minutes prior to 1:30 PM.
Furthermore, users could not log in using computers for 26 minutes on Messenger and for the last 32 minutes on Instagram. However, Facebook and Instagram could be accessed on mobile devices. Published data indicates that not only Bangladesh, but users from Romania, Malaysia, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, South Korea, Hungary, Estonia, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Canada, Denmark, and New Zealand also complained that they were unable to run Facebook.
