Accounts showing temporarily unavailable on the web version
Sudden Severe Outage in Facebook Messenger
- Global technical glitch Meta platforms
- Newsfeed and messaging services disrupted
- Huge social media userbase Bangladesh
Many users have suddenly faced severe difficulties in using the popular social media platforms Facebook and Messenger. Users are encountering a complete standstill while trying to access the website. Although there are no issues with the mobile app, problems have appeared in sending messages and viewing the newsfeed on the web version. Accounts are showing as temporarily unavailable there. A sudden global outage has occurred on Facebook and Messenger in Bangladesh due to technical glitches or backend infrastructure updates. According to the global service monitoring platform Downdetector, this outage has begun. Meta has not yet provided any official reason. As a result, both personal communication and business operations are being affected. However, this issue is specifically visible on the Facebook web version.
On July 19, Sunday, after 1:40 PM, many users started sharing their experiences on social media. In many cases, even if Facebook opens, new posts are not loading, and messages sent on Messenger are not going through or are showing 'sending' for a long time. Many users are getting automatically logged out and cannot re-access their accounts.
According to tech experts, when major platforms go down, the impact is not limited to entertainment or personal communication. Currently, many small businesses, online entrepreneurs, news media, and freelancers depend heavily on Facebook. Consequently, even a few hours of disruption can hamper their work. Social media is now a crucial part of daily life. Therefore, a temporary glitch on large platforms like Facebook and Messenger quickly spreads anxiety among users. There is little alternative for users but to wait until Meta officially provides detailed information regarding the cause or resolution of the issue.
According to data, as of June 2026, the number of Facebook users in Bangladesh is 76,992,500, which is about 42.5 percent of the country's total population. According to the popular social media analytics firm 'NapoleonCat', men account for 62.6% of the total users, while women make up 37.4%. The largest user group is aged between 18 and 24, numbering around 30.4 million. The difference in usage between men and women is highest among the 25 to 34 age group, where men lead.
Notably, on this day in 2024, internet services were virtually shut down in the country, but following the fall of fascism, the interim government banned internet shutdowns by law.
