The popular messaging app WhatsApp is set to introduce a premium subscription feature. Through this service, named “WhatsApp Plus,” users will gain access to several additional features in exchange for a fee. The initiative has been taken by Meta primarily to compete with messaging platforms such as Telegram and Snapchat.

According to a report by the WhatsApp information website WABetaInfo, Meta has currently launched this paid version on a trial basis. The “WhatsApp Plus” version mainly focuses on the app’s visual appeal and cosmetic enhancements. Under this service, users will be able to use premium stickers with special effects. In addition, they will have the option to customize the app’s theme and icon according to their preferences.

Alongside aesthetic upgrades, the version will also include some functional benefits. While regular users can pin a limited number of chats, “Plus” users will be able to pin up to 20 chats. Furthermore, features such as setting custom ringtones for specific contacts and customizing the chat list are also being introduced.

However, Meta has clarified that WhatsApp’s core services will remain free for all users as before. Sending messages, making voice or video calls, and features such as end-to-end encryption will not require any payment.

Although the price of the Plus version has not yet been officially announced, it is expected to range between $1 and $3 per month (approximately 120 to 350 taka). Earlier, Meta had also tested a similar “Plus” subscription model on Instagram.
