Google Grows in Germany: $6.4 Billion Cloud Expansion Announced

Tech giant Google has announced a $6.4 billion investment to expand its cloud infrastructure in Germany, Europe’s largest economy. The company stated that the investment will be implemented in phases between 2026 and 2029, according to a Reuters report.

At a press conference in Berlin, officials from Google and the German government said the plan includes establishing a new data center in Dietzenbach, near Frankfurt, and expanding Google’s existing facility in Hanau.

Philipp Justus, Country Manager for Google Germany, said the project is expected to create approximately 9,000 indirect jobs. Marian Yannick, Vice President of Google Cloud for Northern Europe, added that the new centers will initially employ over a hundred specialists.

German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil described the initiative as an “important milestone” for the nation’s business and technology sectors, following closely on the heels of the recent $1.2 billion artificial intelligence partnership between Deutsche Telekom and NVIDIA.
