The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has issued show-cause notices to 147 diploma-level educational institutions across the country for failing to enroll students over an extended period. The board has sought explanations as to why the teaching approvals of these institutions should not be cancelled or withdrawn.

The directive was issued through a letter signed by BTEB Inspector (Additional Charge) and Secretary Md. Al Masud Karim on Thursday, June 5.

According to the letter, action may be taken against institutions operating Diploma in Engineering, Diploma in Textile, and Diploma in Agriculture programs under the board that have not admitted any students for a prolonged period.

The board stated that, before making a decision to suspend admissions and revoke or withdraw academic approval for these institutions from the 2026–27 academic session, the concerned institutions must provide satisfactory explanations.

Among the 147 institutions served with notices, 120 offer Diploma in Engineering programs, 12 conduct Diploma in Textile programs, and 15 provide Diploma in Agriculture education.

The letter further noted that under Clause 5.4 of the Private Technical Educational Institution Establishment, Teaching and Recognition Policy-2020, the board, with government approval, may cancel or withdraw an institution’s teaching authorization at any time if it fails to meet prescribed conditions.

These conditions include academic results, infrastructure standards, recruitment of teachers and staff, management committee requirements, furniture and facilities, necessary equipment, library resources, and other conditions imposed during approval.

All concerned institutions have been instructed to submit written explanations by June 18. The board warned that failure to provide reasonable and satisfactory justifications within the stipulated timeframe would result in final administrative action in accordance with the policy.
