NID Fraud Foiled: CID Arrests Two Over Data Sales

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two individuals on charges of forging National Identity Cards (NIDs) and illegally selling citizens’ confidential data, allegedly earning more than Tk 10 million per month from the illicit operation.

One of the accused is a computer operator-cum-office assistant of the Election Commission, while the identity of the other suspect has not been disclosed. The CID has not yet revealed the names of either arrestee.

CID spokesperson Special Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin Khan said a media briefing on the matter will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday at the CID headquarters media centre in Malibagh.
