Saleh & Sohel re-elected'; Mahmud Sohel Elected DRU’s ICT Secretary

Mahmud Sohel has been elected the Information Technology and Publications Secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). Sohel, a Special Correspondent at Gazi Television, secured 750 votes, while his nearest rival, Delwar Hossain Mohin, received 571 votes.

After a full day of polling, the election results were announced on Sunday evening, 30 November.

Abu Saleh Akan (509 votes) and Mainul Ahsan Sohel (752 votes) were re-elected as President and General Secretary, respectively.

Mehedi Hasan Masum was elected Vice President with 770 votes. Niaz Mahmud Sohel became Finance Secretary with 792 votes, while M.M. Jasim was elected Organizing Secretary with 404 votes.

Aminul Haque Bhuiyan (851 votes) was elected Hospitality Secretary, and Omar Faruk Rubel (810 votes) won the position of Sports Secretary.

Meanwhile, Mizan Chowdhury was elected unopposed as Publicity and Publications Secretary. Md. Monowar Hossain was elected unopposed as Cultural Secretary, and Rafiq Mridha was elected unopposed as Welfare Secretary.

Among the seven Executive Member posts, six candidates were elected: Al-Amin Azad, Ali Azam, Mahfuz Sadi (Md. Mahfuzur Rahman), Md. Akhtar Hossain, and Mohammad Naeem Uddin. Mohd. Mazaharul Islam and Abdul Alim received the same number of votes for one post; the Executive Committee will decide on the matter later, according to the announcement ceremony.

Election Commission Chairman M.A. Aziz declared the results at the DRU premises. He said that out of 1,755 registered voters, 1,444 cast their ballots. Voting began at 9:00 am and ended at 5:00 pm.
