Jammers and IP Cameras: Government Gears Up for Durga Puja and Election Security

Ahead of nationwide elections and the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja, the interim government is set to employ advanced technology to prevent multifaceted conspiracies aimed at destabilizing law and order. Plans include the installation of mobile phone jammers in prisons, technology-based security devices at every voter entry and exit point, and CCTV or IP cameras at Puja mandaps.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Home Ministry Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani on Wednesday, September 3, where various law enforcement planning measures were discussed. Departmental commissioners, district administrators (DCs), police commissioners, deputy inspectors general (DIGs), and police superintendents (SPs) participated virtually.

According to sources from the meeting, CCTV/IP cameras will be installed at every mandap during the Durga Puja from September 28 to October 2, with live footage connected to UNO offices and local police stations. A special team will also be formed under the emergency number 999. Law enforcement agencies will maintain strict vigilance, and monitoring of social media for rumor-spreading or communal-disruptive activities will be intensified.

The meeting highlighted that banned leaders of the Awami League in prisons are allegedly involved in conspiracies to destabilize law and order. Senior leaders are reportedly using mobile phones inside prisons to influence party workers and even maintain contact with the fugitive autocrat Sheikh Hasina. To prevent such communications, the government has directed the installation of mobile jammers across all prisons.

It is understood that a high-level meeting on September 8 will finalize these measures, led by the Home Ministry.
