OpenAI Enhances ChatGPT with Advanced Image Generation

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on Tuesday during a livestream that ChatGPT will receive a significant upgrade in its image generation capabilities, TechCrunch reports.

With this update, ChatGPT, powered by the GPT-4o model, will now be able to generate and edit images naturally. Previously, the AI chatbot platform was limited to text generation.

The image generation feature through GPT-4o is currently available for OpenAI’s $200-per-month Pro subscribers. The company stated that the feature will soon be rolled out to Plus and free-tier users as well.

Compared to its predecessor, DALL·E 3, the new model is capable of producing more refined and detailed images, albeit with slightly longer processing times. Additionally, it can edit existing images, including modifying human images through a technique known as "inpainting."

OpenAI further stated that the GPT-4o model has been trained on publicly available data as well as proprietary data from partner organizations.
