Regional phase of Biology Olympiad starts from March 1
The regional phase of Bangladesh Biology Olympiad is starting nationwide from March 1. This competition will be held in total of 11 regions. On Friday in the morning, the Olympiad for Dhaka Region will begin at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and that of Comilla Region will be held at Comilla Jila School. On Saturday the regional competition of Rangpur will be held at Hajee Mohammad Danesh University of Science and Technology, and that of Mymensingh region will be held at Bangladesh Agricultural University.
As per the schedule, the Dhaka North Regional Phase will be held on March 8 in the capital at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Sylhet regional phase will be held at Sylhet Agricultural University on the same day.
Similarly, on March 9, the competition for Khulna Region will take place at Khulna University, on March 15 for Barisal Region at Barisal University, on March 16 at Rajshahi University for Rajshahi Region and Govt. Azizul Haque College for Bogra Region, and on March 23 at Cider International School, the competition for Chittagong region will be held. Then the national round will be held at the late April.
In the regional phase, students will participate in the Olympiad in a total of 3 categories—Junior (6th-8th), Secondary (9th-10th) and Higher Secondary (11th-12th) category. Besides, those who have not been admitted to the university by July 2024 and Bangladeshis under the age of 20, can participate in this Olympiad.
Exam will be MCQ type and written mode. From there, the national event will be organized in Dhaka with the participation of the winners of regional phases. Then the Bangladesh team of International Biology Olympiad will be selected from among the national level winners through various trainings. The selected team from Bangladesh Biology Olympiad will participate in the 35th International Biology Olympiad to be held in Kazakhstan on July 7-14.
Bangladesh Biology Olympiad Central Committee General Secretary and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Assistant Professor Soumitra Chakraborty said, 'Bangladesh is going to start organizing Biology Olympiad on a wide scale. It is not only a process of selection of suitable contestants for the International Biology Olympiad, but also a concerted effort to inculcate deep insight into biology among students from school level.'
