Rule Issued on Fraud Charges
High Court Stays Case Against Foodpanda MD
- High Court stays proceedings in 3.8 crore BDT fraud case against Foodpanda officials
- Division bench issues rule questioning why proceedings should not be permanently quashed
- Decision follows lower court dispute involving supply chain distributor IPEL Network
The High Court has stayed all judicial proceedings in two separate fraud and embezzlement cases involving BDT 3.8 crore filed against Foodpanda Bangladesh Limited Managing Director Syeda Ambareen Reza and four other top executives. The court also issued a rule asking why the cases should not be quashed altogether.
Defense counsel Barrister Kazi Ershadul Alam confirmed the court order on Tuesday (October 20, 2026). Earlier on Sunday (October 18, 2026), a High Court division bench comprising Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Md. Ashif Hassan delivered the order following arguments presented by senior advocate Barrister A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokan on behalf of the petitioners.
Case documents reveal that Shihab Mahmud Bashir, proprietor of supply chain entity 'IPEL Distribution Network,' filed the lawsuits in a Dhaka court following transaction disputes amounting to BDT 3.8 crore over vendor settlements. The cases had reached the charge-framing stage in the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.
Earlier on September 23, lower courts issued arrest warrants against the five executives, following which they secured anticipatory bail from the High Court and subsequently obtained regular bail from the trial court. The latest High Court order completely halts the ongoing trial process until the rule is disposed of.
