Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has said that authorities are currently examining the video messages released by Faisal, the prime accused in the murder case of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inkilab Mancha.

The DMP commissioner made the statement on Saturday, 3 January, while responding to a question at the A-Four Bashundhara Paper CRAB Best Reporting Award–2025 ceremony held at the auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

Asked specifically about the video messages allegedly released by Faisal, the commissioner said, “Regarding Hadi, there will be no comment at this moment. We have received the video and are examining it. We will make a statement after the examination is completed.”

At the same event, Dhaka Post Chief Reporter Md. Adnan Rahman jointly received the CRAB Best Reporting Award–2024 in the print and online category alongside Mahmudul Hasan Nayan of The Daily Prothom Alo.

According to sources, the DMP is conducting examinations of two separate video messages reportedly released by Faisal, the prime accused in the murder of Inkilab Mancha spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

Meanwhile, as Faisal continues to upload video messages one after another, digital forensic expert Tanvir Hasan Joha has weighed in on what steps the government should take from a digital forensic perspective. He said the key question—where the video originated from—cannot be answered by the video itself, but rather by server-level data.

Joha explained that the original source information of videos uploaded to platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, or TikTok—including IP address, device ID, and log data—is not accessible to the general public. Such data is retained only by the respective social media platforms and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Therefore, determining “who created the video” or “which device uploaded it” is impossible without formal legal requests.

He further emphasized the need to investigate several critical aspects, including preservation of video, account, comment, and message data; whether the video was directly uploaded or re-uploaded; whether it originated from a local network or via VPN/foreign routing; and whether the uploads were made by a single individual or multiple actors.
