Bangladesh is set to participate in the upcoming Asia-Pacific Open Championship of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO), as part of a global initiative to engage students in robotics and innovation. In preparation for the international event, a national selection round was held on Saturday, July 5, at the Dhanmondi office of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). The event was jointly organized by BdOSN and World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh (WROBd), featuring 26 teams from across the country.

The international championship will be contested in four categories, and Bangladesh will be represented in three of them with a total of four teams—two in the Future Innovators category, one in Future Engineers, and one in RoboSports.

Registration for the national phase remained open until June 30 following the announcement on June 14. In total, 15 teams registered in the Future Innovators category, nine in Future Engineers, and two in RoboSports. Within the Future Innovators division, eight teams competed in the junior section and seven in the senior section. One team from each section will advance to represent Bangladesh internationally.

Throughout June, WROBd also hosted 14 activation programs to promote robotics awareness among students. These workshops were conducted in five districts at both public and private universities, engaging nearly 2,000 students.

Saturday’s national selection began with the Future Innovators competition, followed by a practice session for the Future Engineers category in the afternoon. The RoboSports competition was held at 4:00 PM, and the event concluded with the main Future Engineers round in the evening. According to WRO guidelines, each team comprises two to three members along with a coach. The winning teams will soon be announced following thorough evaluation.

The selected teams will represent Bangladesh at the World Robot Olympiad Asia-Pacific Open Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Manila, Philippines, from September 18 to 21. The event, organized by Felta Multimedia Inc. in partnership with WRO Philippines’ national organizing body, is expected to feature 250 teams from 47 countries.

The World Robot Olympiad hosts continental open championships annually across regions including the Americas, Europe, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), and the Asia-Pacific. These regional events aim to make travel more accessible for participants while promoting interest in robotics among students and enabling greater participation from developing countries.
