BanglaFact Debunks Disinformation Linking Indian Citizen to July War Hero Identity

The Fact-Check and Media Research Team of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), known as BanglaFact, has uncovered a disinformation campaign falsely portraying an Indian citizen as a wounded war hero from the July uprising.
According to BanglaFact’s investigation, a video circulating across various platforms features a man in a wheelchair who was misrepresented as a July war hero. In reality, the individual is an Indian national named Nazrul Haque.
Fact-checking revealed that Nazrul Haque arrived in Dhaka from Kolkata on March 17, disguising himself as a patient. Upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, authorities recovered liquor and cosmetics from his possession.
Recently, the video of this incident has been widely circulated on social media, particularly Facebook, falsely claiming it shows a wounded July fighter caught with alcohol at the airport.
BanglaFact continues to play a vital role in countering rumors, fake news, and misinformation in Bangladesh by delivering verified and accurate information to the public.
