In anticipation of Eid-ul-Adha, expected to be observed on June 7, Bangladesh Railway has commenced advance ticket sales for outbound train journeys from the capital. On Tuesday, May 27, tickets for the seventh and final day of pre-Eid travel—June 6—went on sale. Like previous years, all tickets are being sold exclusively online to streamline passenger access and minimize congestion at counters.

This year, a total of 33,315 seats are available on intercity trains departing from Dhaka for various destinations across the country. The railway has segmented the sale timings by region: tickets for western-bound trains began selling at 8:00 AM, while those for the eastern zone are scheduled for release at 2:00 PM.

According to railway officials, the demand was overwhelming from the outset. Within the first 30 minutes of Tuesday’s sale, the system logged 11.4 million hits from users attempting to purchase tickets.

Combined data from both the eastern and western zones show that 32,965 tickets have been allocated for June 6 travel. As of 8:30 AM Tuesday, 13,678 tickets had already been sold, while sales for the eastern routes were still pending the afternoon release.

Nationwide, Bangladesh Railway has allocated a total of 171,864 tickets for Eid travel. By 8:30 AM on Tuesday, 16,954 of those had been purchased.

As for return journeys after Eid, Bangladesh Railway has also outlined the advance sale schedule. Tickets for June 9 will be available on May 30, followed by June 10 tickets on May 31, June 11 on June 1, June 12 on June 2, June 13 on June 3, June 14 on June 4, and June 15 tickets on June 5.

To further facilitate passengers, ticket issuance has been scheduled with a regional split—western zone tickets from 8:00 AM and eastern zone tickets from 2:00 PM. All tickets for Eid travel and return are to be purchased online only.
